The Punjab Excise and Taxation Department has launched the PAK-ID mobile application to enable biometric verification of vehicles. Developed in partnership with NADRA and the Punjab Information Technology Board, the app allows users in Pakistan and abroad to confirm ownership and process transfers via facial recognition and biometric authentication.
Under the new system, overseas citizens no longer need to visit embassies, submit notarized affidavits, or grant power of attorney for verification. Instead, they can authenticate their identity remotely using Face ID and biometric validation on their smartphones. The facial recognition feature also aids elderly users whose fingerprints may have faded, overcoming limitations of conventional biometric scans.
The app integrates with the existing e-payment platform, allowing citizens to pay transfer fees digitally. Once verification and payment are completed, vehicle ownership transfers are expected to finalize within 48 hours, eliminating the delays caused by manual verification processes.
Excise and Taxation Director-General Umar Sher Chatha described the initiative as a significant step toward streamlining procedures and reducing bureaucracy. Officials added that the system will eventually expand to support verification across all provinces, with databases linked to NADRA for enhanced efficiency.
