The upgraded Jinnah Bridge in Karachi has been reopened after the completion of a major rehabilitation project aimed at improving traffic flow between the port area and key highways. The project was inaugurated by Murtaza Wahab, Mayor of Karachi, during a ceremony held in Keamari District.
The rehabilitation work, completed at a cost of Rs. 609 million, was carried out by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation(KMC). Speaking at the inauguration, the mayor said that Jinnah Bridge plays a crucial role in connecting the port with major highways and the Native Jetty Bridge, making it a vital route for both commuters and commercial transport.
According to officials, the project included the replacement of 552 metres of expansion joints and the completion of approximately 775,000 square metres of asphalt work to strengthen the bridge and improve road conditions.
Murtaza Wahab said the rehabilitation will help ease traffic congestion and ensure smoother movement of vehicles traveling between the port area and other parts of the city. He added that improving road infrastructure and providing safer travel facilities for residents remain a top priority for the municipal administration.
The mayor also revealed that sewage treatment plants in Mauripur and Haroonabad are expected to become operational later this year, which will further improve civic infrastructure in Karachi.
