CD Projekt Red is rapidly scaling up development for The Witcher 4. The studio recently shared an encouraging update about its upcoming projects. Moving forward, the franchise will undergo a major shift. Ciri will officially replace Geralt as the lead protagonist in the next game.
A Massive Team Behind The Witcher 4
Currently, CD Projekt Red boasts a total workforce of 933 developers as of February 28, 2026. The Witcher 4 now commands over half of the studio’s resources. Specifically, 499 developers are actively working on the title. This specific team has gained 88 new members since the end of February 2025.
Furthermore, the studio recently acquired several notable industry talents. Felix Pedulla, previously the Cinematic Director for Baldur’s Gate 3, has joined the team. Additionally, former Blizzard composer Russell Brower and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 cinematic animator Lucie Hennet are now on board.
Updates on Cyberpunk 2 & Multiplayer Projects
Meanwhile, other major titles are also expanding their development teams. Cyberpunk 2 currently sits in the pre-production phase. However, its dedicated team recently grew to 149 developers, up from 135 in October 2025.
Similarly, Project Sirius, the placeholder name for the planned Witcher multiplayer game, now employs 71 developers. This reflects a solid increase from 49 developers last year. Conversely, Project Hadar lost three members, bringing its team down to 26. The studio’s “Other” category also lost three developers recently.
A Six-Year Roadmap for the Franchise
At this time, The Witcher 4 does not have an official release date. Despite this, CD Projekt Red plans to release three new Witcher games over a six-year span. Naturally, this ambitious roadmap will kick off with The Witcher 4.
Consequently, the fourth game will require the longest development time. Afterward, the subsequent two titles will capitalize on the established groundwork to speed up production.
