The Senate Standing Committee on Finance and Revenue is set to examine additional charges levied on customers by banks and telecom companies in a crucial meeting scheduled for April 1 at Parliament House. The issue has drawn widespread public attention, with consumers increasingly voicing concerns over hidden fees.
Alongside this, the committee will review several financial and administrative matters affecting government employees and institutions.
According to an official notice from the Senate Secretariat, representatives from both the banking sector and telecom companies will provide a detailed briefing on the extra fees charged to consumers. The move comes amid growing calls for transparency in service charges and fair treatment of customers.
The meeting will also discuss salary and allowance matters. Parliament House medical staff are proposed to receive an honorarium equivalent to five months’ basic pay, while faculty members under the tenure track system have raised concerns regarding their salary structure.
In addition, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) chairman will update the committee on two matters: a request from the Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry regarding the non-implementation of a presidential order issued in July 2025.
