The Government of Punjab has made notable progress in its eco-friendly e-taxi initiative, with hundreds of applicants advancing to the next stage of the program.
According to officials, around 380 candidates have already submitted their down payments, reflecting strong interest in the scheme. In total, more than 350,000 applications were received, highlighting overwhelming public response.
Provincial official Bilal Akbar Khan stated that 1,100 candidates were shortlisted through a transparent balloting process. He added that authorities are now contacting eligible applicants to complete payment requirements, while the scrutiny process is nearing completion.
Under the initiative, the Punjab government plans to roll out 1,100 electric taxis with a subsidy of Rs. 6 billion. The minimum down payment has been set at Rs. 650,000, while the maximum amount reaches Rs. 850,000.
Officials further revealed that applicants who have already deposited their down payments will soon receive their vehicles.
The scheme prioritizes participation from the corporate sector, women, and professional drivers, aiming to promote environmentally friendly transport while delivering broader social and economic benefits across the province.
