Battlefield Studios continues to push Battlefield 6 forward. Despite a recent studio “realignment” and a declining player count following last year’s massive launch, the developers are actively working to regain momentum. Recently, the March 17 Nightfall update successfully introduced a darker atmosphere, while players heavily praised the new Hagental Base map for its close-quarters combat layout.
Consequently, the developers are preparing for the final phase of Season 2. The upcoming “Hunter/Prey” update officially launches on April 14. In a recently released lengthy community update, Battlefield Studios provided a debrief of the current season. They also provided updates on the game’s future direction. Here is all you need to know:
Progression Improvements & Ping System Fixes
The Hunter/Prey update directly addresses progression feedback. Previously, Season 2 accelerated Battle Pass unlocks and reduced Mastery XP requirements. Now, players will earn Mastery XP simply by using weapons and vehicles, alongside standard eliminations. Furthermore, developers are adjusting Career XP earn rates across all Multiplayer modes to ensure consistent pacing.
Meanwhile, REDSEC modes will heavily reward the time players spend in matches rather than just their final placement. In Battle Royale, kills and damage assists will grant 50% higher scores. This change yields significantly more Weapon XP per match.
Additionally, the update overhauls the ping system. Long-range spotting for vehicles and drones will work more consistently. The system will prioritize enemy soldiers over nearby interactable objects. Furthermore, developers fixed bugs that caused vehicle pings to disappear or persist incorrectly after equipment changes. Loot pings will also register and update reliably on the big map.
REDSEC Upgrades & Battle Royale Solos
Battlefield Studios is actively reducing downtime and improving the pacing in Battle Royale. To maintain looting momentum, chest opening animations are now slightly faster. Ammo Drops will provide increased ammunition and include armor plates. Similarly, MRAPVs and Safes will replace grenades with armor plates. Players can also utilize a new Armor Drop Strike Package, which deploys 12 armor plate pickups for a total of 24 plates.
In addition, the Traverser Mark 2 (Armored Transport) returns to Battle Royale. However, developers removed its weapons to balance match flow. The Sledgehammer also receives a damage buff against destructible walls, strictly within the Battle Royale mode.
For Gauntlet fans, the VL-7 Smoke returns as a permanent mission modifier. This forces players to integrate gas masks into their tactical gameplay.
Previously, Battlefield Labs ran a highly requested Battle Royale Solos test from March 6 to March 9. The Recon class dominated the meta because drones offered crucial situational awareness. Conversely, combat vehicles generated mixed feedback. Some players enjoyed the chaos, while others felt vehicles swung engagements too heavily without a squad to counter them. Battlefield Studios is currently reviewing class balance and pacing before officially bringing Solos back permanently.
Portal Additions & Future Battlefield 6 Teasers
On April 14, creators will receive the brand-new Portal Gadget. Built with TypeScript, this equippable tool acts as a physical button that allows players to trigger custom gameplay scripts and events anywhere on the map. This addition eliminates clunky workarounds like “crouch to confirm”. Furthermore, developers are permanently adding the popular VL-7 Smoke and Night Mode modifiers to Portal.
Looking beyond Season 2, Battlefield Studios confirmed that the Golmud Railway map will arrive in a future update. Developers are also currently testing broader vehicle improvements and control updates behind the scenes.
