Apple has released iOS 26.4.1 to address a significant bug that caused iPhones running iOS 26.4 to stop syncing data through iCloud. The issue affected apps that rely on Apple’s CloudKit framework, including Apple’s own Passwords app and a range of third-party applications. The bug went somewhat under the radar but was impacting a large number of users.
The problem was identified through Apple’s developer forums, where developers reported that iPhones running iOS 26.4 had stopped receiving iCloud change notifications. This meant that changes made on one device, such as saving a new password or updating a note, were not automatically delivered to other iPhones and iPads linked to the same iCloud account. Developers of affected apps had no workaround available and could only submit bug reports to Apple and wait for an operating system fix.
The issue was not limited to third-party apps. Apple’s own services that rely on CloudKit infrastructure were also hit, including the shared passwords feature in the Passwords app. For users who depend on iCloud Keychain to keep passwords in sync across multiple Apple devices, the bug meant credentials saved on one device would not appear on another.
Apps like Drafts, a popular writing and note-taking app, confirmed the syncing issue and directed users to the iOS 26.4.1 update as the fix. The bug existed on iPadOS 26.4 as well, but macOS Tahoe 26.4 was not affected by the same issue.
Users running iOS 26.4 who have noticed data syncing problems with their apps should update to iOS 26.4.1 immediately. The update is available through Settings, then General, then Software Update. Users enrolled in the beta program already have the fix through the latest iOS 26.5 beta release.
