Microsoft is quietly reshaping how its AI features appear inside Windows 11 apps. The company is moving away from strong Copilot branding and adopting simpler, more neutral labels. This shift suggests a focus on usability rather than highlighting AI at every step.
In a recent update, Notepad no longer shows the Copilot name in its interface. Instead, Microsoft has renamed the Copilot menu to “writing tools.” The features remain the same, but the branding now feels more subtle. At the same time, the Copilot icon has been replaced with a pen icon. This small visual change makes the tool look more like a standard editing feature.
Microsoft has also adjusted how these features appear in the settings menu. Previously, AI-related options were clearly labeled. Now, they sit under a new section called “Advanced features.” This change removes direct AI references while keeping all functions accessible.
The update is rolling out through the Windows Insider program. It is included in Notepad version 11.2512.28.0. Users running this version will already see the new labels and interface tweaks.
Even though the branding has changed, the AI tools still work the same way. Microsoft seems to be reducing the visibility of Copilot across Windows 11. However, users still have full control. They can disable these features anytime through the app settings.
Overall, the update reflects a softer approach to AI integration. Microsoft keeps the power of AI but presents it in a more familiar and less intrusive way.
