MG is preparing to introduce the second-generation HS in Pakistan, and the launch is expected very soon. The SUV has been an important part of MG’s local lineup since 2020. Now, the new model is set to bring major changes in design, performance, and technology.
Earlier, on March 28th, MG Pakistan had discontinued the HS turbo variant. At that time, it was also suggested that a new generation was on the way. That update is now turning into reality as MG moves closer to launch.
MG entered the Pakistani market in 2020, and the HS was its first model. In the early phase, the company sold fully imported units. Later, MG shifted to local assembly and introduced the model as “Essence.”
After that, a more affordable trim named “Excite” was added. This helped MG reach a wider group of buyers. In 2024, MG expanded the lineup further with a locally assembled plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV). It joined the existing 1.5-turbo variant.
Then, in February 2025, MG introduced a facelift of the first-generation HS. It came in both PHEV and non-PHEV options. The update included minor exterior changes and a new blue and white interior theme.
Rising Competition in the SUV Market
The crossover segment has become highly competitive in recent years. Many new Chinese brands entered the market with lower prices. They also offered modern designs and advanced features.
As a result, the first-generation HS started losing ground. It struggled to match the updated technology and styling of newer rivals.
To stay competitive, MG decided to bring the second-generation HS to Pakistan. This model has already been available in global markets since 2024.
