Valve will soon announce the official release date for the highly anticipated Steam Machine. Furthermore, the company has confirmed that the hardware is practically finished. Currently, physical supply chain logistics remain the only obstacle keeping the device out of consumers’ hands.
SteamOS developer Pierre-Loup Griffais shared this encouraging update during a recent IGN interview. He stated that the pre-release pipeline is progressing smoothly. Meanwhile, the Steam Controller hits the market next week on May 4, 2026, for $99.99. Valve deliberately pushed the controller first to accommodate PC users and prevent them from waiting on the larger console.
Therefore, the Steam Machine stands as the next major release in Valve’s hardware lineup. Valve originally announced the Steam Machine, Steam Controller, and Steam Frame VR headset together in November 2025. Initially, fans expected a simultaneous launch. However, recent developments confirm Valve will release each product separately throughout 2026.
Powerhouse Hardware Specs
The Steam Machine packs incredible processing power inside a remarkably small physical footprint. In fact, Griffais compared the overall user experience to playing on a docked Steam Deck. However, the console delivers substantially more GPU horsepower.
Specifically, the console features a custom RDNA3 GPU paired with 8GB of GDDR6 VRAM. Additionally, it utilizes a Zen 4 processor clocked up to 4.8GHz alongside 16GB of dedicated system RAM. Consequently, this distinct memory setup separates it from the Steam Deck’s shared memory pool and older RDNA2 silicon.
Steam Machine Pre-Orders & Separate Rollouts
Currently, both the Steam Machine and Steam Frame VR remain listed as “coming soon” on the Steam digital storefront. Valve did not offer pre-purchases for the upcoming Steam Controller. Conversely, the Steam Machine will likely receive a dedicated pre-order window. As the most expensive product in the trio, establishing early momentum will require a more substantial pre-release timeframe.
Ultimately, Valve remains completely on track to deliver all three announced hardware products before the end of the year.
