The federal government has officially reduced the processing time for ordinary passports. Citizens will now receive their passports in 14 days instead of 21 days. This reduction in passport processing time aims to provide faster service to the public. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Minister of State Talal Chaudhry finalized this decision during a meeting in Islamabad today. The Federal Secretary of Interior and the Director General of Passport & Immigration also attended the session.
Along with a faster passport processing time, the government is rolling out major operational upgrades. Minister Naqvi directed officials to implement a fully cashless system in all passport offices within the next 15 days. Consequently, this strict measure will eliminate the influence of unauthorized agents. It will also significantly improve transparency across all passport centers.
Moreover, authorities are prioritizing efficiency for professionals. The meeting heavily emphasized finalizing a new business passport issuance system. Additionally, the government plans to enhance the speed and reliability of home delivery services for all passports.
Finally, broader structural reforms are on the horizon. Naqvi stressed the absolute necessity of establishing a dedicated Passport Authority. He confirmed that this dedicated body is essential for reforming the current framework. Ultimately, it will ensure better, faster public service delivery.
