The Punjab Home Department has officially greenlit a crucial amendment to its agreement with the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA). As a result, citizens will soon access verifiable digital credentials for their arms licenses. However, the Punjab government did not blindly rush this deployment of digital arms licenses. They actively addressed glaring security vulnerabilities right before approval.
Initially, the proposed digital system included single sign-on authentication and shared login features. But, the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) immediately stepped in. The board identified severe technical and security concerns tied to these specific tech clauses. Consequently, PITB strongly recommended removing the single sign-on provision from the amended draft. The authorities listened. They completely scrapped the shared login and single sign-on clauses to protect user data. Afterward, legal teams reviewed and finalized the revised agreement.
Under this new and secure arrangement, citizens of Punjab gain instant access to their digital arms licenses. The government will issue these verifiable credentials directly through the Pak ID Wallet. Therefore, license holders can easily prove their license status whenever required. The system securely links these digital credentials directly to the central Punjab arms database. Ultimately, this initiative makes verification much easier, faster, and significantly more secure for both citizens and law enforcement.
To ensure uninterrupted digital service, the Punjab Home Department extended its working agreement with NADRA. Specifically, official documents confirm this partnership will now run until December 31, 2026. Furthermore, this newly validated timeframe retroactively covers the operational period starting from January 1, 2023.
