Ubisoft is completely changing the hidden blade in Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced. During a recent Reddit AMA in late April 2026, a Ubisoft representative confirmed a major combat overhaul. Consequently, players can no longer equip hidden blades from the weapon wheel during active fights. Instead, Edward Kenway will rely on dual swords as his primary weapons. Furthermore, the hidden blade now acts strictly as a fatal, contextual takedown. You can only trigger this bloody finisher after breaking an opponent’s defense.

Meanwhile, stealth gameplay remains largely familiar. Outside of combat, Edward can still use the hidden blades to assassinate unsuspecting enemies. Running assassinations are also expected to return. Additionally, Ubisoft plans to introduce new animations and applications for pistols and other tools. This makes the overall combat experience much more reactive.
Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced Denser World & Upgraded Naval Features
Black Flag Resynced retains the original 16 x 16 km map size. However, developers made the world significantly denser. The game features new islands and fresh visitable locations inside cities. Moreover, players will experience new story content featuring both new and returning characters. All original side activities will return as well. Royal convoys also make a comeback, though they might be harder to find.
Naval exploration receives modern upgrades too. Ubisoft added autopilot and pathfinder support for your ship. Furthermore, players can now access Kenway’s Fleet directly from the in-game hideout or the captain’s cabin. As a result, the old companion phone app is no longer necessary. Additionally, sailors will sing all the original sea shanties alongside several brand-new tracks.
Tech Upgrades & Franchise Future
The upcoming remake trims some old features while adding modern technical improvements. For instance, the developers removed the DNA sequence menu entirely. The game also drops the multiplayer mode. Conversely, the classic wanted system remains intact. Progressively larger fleets of pirate hunters will relentlessly pursue Edward as his notoriety rises.
Technically, the game supports ray tracing across all graphics modes. However, players who prioritize better performance can still use a baked-in lighting option. Players can also remap ground and naval controls separately. Lastly, the game features gore but restricts any dismemberment.
Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced launches worldwide on July 9, 2026. It serves as the final major entry before ‘Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe’. This original open-world action-adventure explores the 16th-century Holy Roman Empire. Currently in development at Ubisoft Montreal, Codename Hexe will likely launch between June and November 2027.
