The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) named Babar Azam as captain of the HBL PSL 11 Team of the Year after he finished as the highest run-scorer in the recently concluded edition.
The Peshawar Zalmi captain scored 558 runs across 11 innings, including two centuries against Quetta Gladiators and Islamabad United during a month long marquee tournament.
A five-member panel drawn from the PSL commentary team selected the side, along with a separate Emerging Team of the Year featuring young Pakistani players.
Batters & Wicketkeeper
Kusal Mendis of Peshawar Zalmi and Lahore Qalandars opening batter Fakhar Zaman were included after finishing as the second and third highest run-scorers of the season.
Multan Sultans batter and Pakistan Test captain Shan Masood earned selection, alongside Hyderabad Kingsmen wicketkeeper-batter Usman Khan in the final eleven.
All-rounders & Bowlers
Islamabad United captain Shadab Khan was selected after taking 17 wickets during the eleventh season and was also named the best all-rounder of tournament by the panel.
Hassan Khan and Hunain Shah, who represented Hyderabad Kingsmen were both included, along with Lahore Qalandars captain and fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi in the team.
Peshawar Zalmi spinner Sufyan Muqeem took 22 wickets in 11 matches at an average of 14.40, winning both Best Bowler and Player of the Tournament awards.
Islamabad United fast bowler Richard Gleeson was also named in the eleven, while Hassan Ayaz of Quetta Gladiators was selected as the twelfth player of the PSL team.
Notable Absences
No player from Karachi Kings or the Rawalpindi franchise was selected in the final eleven or named as the twelfth player in the team by the panel.
