Pakistan government announced plans to expand home delivery passport service to all cities after successful implementation for overseas Pakistanis. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi chaired high-level meeting approving major reforms to improve passport issuance system with Minister of State Talal Chaudhry. The government decided to further improve home-delivery system ensuring smoother and more accessible doorstep delivery of passports.
Directorate General Immigration and Passports already delivers passports to doorsteps for overseas Pakistanis who apply online through e-Services portal. After successful submission of Machine Readable Passport application including fee and data capturing applicants don’t need to visit office again for collection. The service will expand to all cities of Pakistan according to official announcements.
Naqvi announced delivery time for normal passports reduced from 21 days to 14 days as part of efforts to modernize and streamline services. The government introduced fully cashless system across all passport offices eliminating cash payments with 15-day deadline set for complete transition. Ending cash payments will help eliminate agent mafia and provide greater ease to citizens according to minister statements.
The meeting reviewed progress on proposed Business Passport category with directions to finalize issuance mechanism at earliest. Naqvi emphasized need to establish dedicated Passport Authority to strengthen system and enhance public service delivery. Officials confirmed reduced 14-day delivery timeline for normal passports will be implemented nationwide.
Fast Track option delivers within 2-4 working days while Urgent option delivers within 7-10 days in 2026 using premium courier services. Currently home delivery option is only available for overseas Pakistanis while inland applicants collect passports at preferred Regional Passport Offices. Interior Secretary, Director General Immigration and Passports, and senior officials attended the meeting.
