The traffic authorities in Lahore have completely banned loader and motor cycle rickshaws from Canal Road, citing serious safety risks to the public.
The City Traffic Officer Lahore stated that the decision was made to protect the lives and property of citizens travelling along the busy road.
Loader rickshaws have been found carrying dangerously overloaded cargo, including steel rods and iron pipes that extend beyond their bodies, posing severe hazards.
Authorities warned that loader rickshaws involved in any road accident could prove fatal to other road users, pedestrians, and passengers travelling nearby.
Chingchi rickshaws operating on Canal Road have also been blamed for creating severe traffic disruption and significantly reducing the overall flow of vehicles.
The CTO also ordered a crackdown against those allowing extra passengers to ride alongside drivers on standard auto rickshaws operating on the road in the provincial capital.
Additional traffic police personnel have been deployed across Canal Road specifically to prevent banned vehicles from entering and violating the new restrictions.
Special enforcement teams have been stationed at 3 key locations, including Dharampura, Mughalpura, and Thokar Niaz Baig, to ensure compliance.
Authorities issued a strict warning that loader rickshaws must not carry any cargo that extends beyond the vehicle body under any circumstances.
Officials confirmed that protecting human lives will remain the top priority and that enforcement of the ban will continue without any exceptions.
