IO Interactive just dropped an exciting preview for gamers. The studio officially released a video showcasing the first 13 minutes of 007: First Light. This marks a massive moment for fans. The James Bond franchise finally returns to video games after a 14-year drought since 007 Legends in 2012. Furthermore, the highly anticipated game launches in just two days on May 27.

A Fresh Origin Story for James Bond
This new title completely breaks away from the classic formula. It ignores the original Ian Fleming novels to create an entirely new version of the character. The story follows a much younger James Bond shortly after he joins MI6. Players will experience his origin story as he earns his iconic 00 title.
Moreover, the opening sequence throws players right into the action. Bond and a group of agents investigate an unusual heat signature. Suddenly, enemies shoot down their helicopter. Bond wakes up amidst the island wreckage. He then regroups with his squad and sneaks into a hostile base. Along the way, players will meet reimagined versions of M and Miss Moneypenny. Additionally, the game introduces a completely original villain never seen in any previous Bond media.
Unique 007: First Light Mechanics & Tactical Freedom
007: First Light blends chaotic action with tense stealth segments. To help players survive, IO Interactive added a unique Instinct mechanic. This system leverages Bond’s trademark wit and wiles to escape dangerous situations.
However, the developers confirmed that the game will not feature a New Game Plus mode. Instead, they included various Tactical Challenges. These challenges grant players the freedom to tackle missions in multiple ways. Overall, completing the main story will take players roughly 20 hours.
Platforms & Future Plans
Excitement is building fast ahead of the official release. The game launches on May 27 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. If you pre-ordered the game, you can jump in 24 hours early.
Furthermore, Nintendo fans have something to look forward to. IO Interactive plans to release the game on the Switch 2 before the end of 2026. Finally, the studio is already looking ahead. CEO Hakan Abrak stated they remain open to developing a sequel if 007: First Light performs well commercially.
