Teachers at Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology have announced a boycott of classes and examinations, escalating their protest over financial and administrative issues affecting the institution.
The decision was made during a joint meeting of the university’s teachers’ association from the Abdul Haq and Gulshan-e-Iqbal campuses. Faculty members resolved to suspend teaching activities and examination duties until their demands are addressed by the university administration.
The protest is expected to disrupt ongoing academic activities, including examinations scheduled to commence on June 8, 2026.
During the meeting, teachers criticized the administration led by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Zabta Khan Shinwari and called for accountability regarding the university’s management and financial affairs.
Faculty members urged Asif Ali Zardari, who serves as Chancellor of the university, and Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, the Pro-Chancellor, to declare an educational emergency and review the vice chancellor’s tenure.
In a resolution adopted during the meeting, teachers demanded the full payment of house ceiling dues for faculty and staff, restoration of the 20 percent deduction imposed on the allowance, and immediate clearance of pending salaries, pensions, and post-retirement benefits.
The association also called for the convening of the selection board to fill positions advertised in 2022 and sought promotions for teachers nearing retirement under the hardship policy approved by the university senate.
Additional demands included payment of outstanding dues to part-time faculty members, withdrawal of the conditional admissions policy, implementation of a merit-based admissions system, reimbursement of salary deductions linked to leave encashment, and restoration of medical panels for university employees.
According to the joint declaration, the boycott of teaching activities and examinations will continue until the university administration addresses the teachers’ concerns and fulfills their demands.
