The Sindh government has approved the addition of 100 more electric buses to the province’s public transport fleet as part of its ongoing efforts to promote environmentally friendly and sustainable transportation.
The announcement was made by Sharjeel Inam Memon, Senior Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit, during an event held in connection with World Environment Day.
Speaking on the occasion, Memon said the expansion of the electric bus fleet would enhance commuting facilities for residents while supporting the province’s transition toward cleaner and more sustainable modes of transportation.
He noted that increasing environmental challenges have made it essential for governments to adopt environmentally responsible policies and invest in green infrastructure. According to the minister, the Sindh government is actively pursuing initiatives aimed at reducing carbon emissions and encouraging sustainable development across multiple sectors.
Memon highlighted the province’s efforts to modernize public transport through the introduction of electric buses and electric scooters. He described these initiatives as important milestones in improving urban mobility while reducing the environmental impact associated with conventional fuel-powered vehicles.
The minister added that the expansion of the electric vehicle fleet is expected to provide citizens with safer, more comfortable, and higher-quality transportation services. At the same time, the initiative is expected to help lower air pollution levels and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
The approval of 100 additional electric buses comes as provincial governments across Pakistan increasingly focus on clean transportation solutions to address rising urban pollution and growing public transport demands. The move is also expected to contribute to Pakistan’s broader environmental and climate objectives by promoting low-emission mobility options.
With the latest expansion, Sindh aims to strengthen its public transport network while improving accessibility and encouraging greater adoption of environmentally sustainable travel across the province.
