The federal government is considering raising the Climate Support Levy on petrol-powered motorcycles from one to three percent in the upcoming Budget 2026-27.
The proposed tax increase would raise prices across the popular motorcycle range of Honda, with consumers absorbing additional costs ranging from Rs3,100 to Rs10,100 per unit.
Under the proposal, the Honda CD70 would rise from Rs159,900 to Rs163,000, while the Honda CG125 would increase from Rs238,500 to Rs243,000.
The Honda CB150F faces the steepest hike, moving from Rs503,900 to Rs514,000, representing an increase of Rs10,100 for buyers considering this higher-capacity model.
Other models including the Honda CG150, CD Dream, and Pridor would also see price revisions, with increases ranging from Rs3,100 to Rs9,100 per motorcycle.
The proposed levy increase adds to existing financial burdens on motorcycle buyers, who currently pay sales tax, excise duty, withholding tax, and registration fees at purchase.
Motorcycle ownership is particularly significant for middle- and lower-income households, for whom even modest price increases directly affect both personal and business transportation costs.
Manufacturers are expected to revise official price lists if the budget proposal is enacted, although no formal notifications have been issued by any motorcycle company so far.
Switching to electric motorcycles remains difficult for most consumers due to higher upfront costs, limited riding range, insufficient charging infrastructure, and restricted spare parts availability.
