The federal government has allocated approximately Rs. 3 trillion for defense affairs and services in the Federal Budget 2026-27, reflecting its focus on national security, military preparedness, and strategic capabilities.
The allocation forms a significant portion of the government’s overall expenditure plan and is aimed at maintaining operational readiness, modernizing defense infrastructure, and supporting the requirements of Pakistan’s armed forces amid evolving regional security challenges.
According to officials, the defense budget has been designed to ensure the continued effectiveness of military operations while strengthening the country’s defense capabilities through modernization and strategic investments.
The allocation comes as part of the broader federal budget framework approved by the cabinet ahead of its presentation in Parliament. The government has simultaneously outlined major spending commitments across sectors including debt servicing, development projects, subsidies, pensions, and public sector operations.
During a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at Parliament House, members approved the budget documents and the Finance Bill for the upcoming fiscal year.
The cabinet also approved a 7 percent increase in salaries for government employees, providing relief to public sector workers amid ongoing economic challenges and inflationary pressures.
The Rs. 3 trillion defense allocation underscores the government’s effort to balance security requirements with fiscal management objectives under the FY2026-27 budget framework.
