Private schools in Islamabad have been given a final deadline of June 30, 2026, to comply with the mandatory requirement of providing free education to 10% of deserving students under the Right to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2012.
The decision was taken during a special meeting of the Islamabad Capital Territory Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority (ICT-PEIRA) chaired by Dr. Ghulam Ali Mallah. The meeting reviewed compliance by private educational institutions regarding the provision of need-based scholarships for underprivileged children.
According to officials, the Authority expressed concern that a large number of private schools have yet to submit the required scholarship data despite receiving multiple notices and directives.
Chairman ICT-PEIRA Dr. Ghulam Ali Mallah emphasized that the Authority remains committed to ensuring full implementation of the law and providing educational opportunities to deserving children across the federal capital.
He announced that Out-of-School Children (OOSC) identified through ongoing enrollment campaigns will be given priority admission under the 10% scholarship quota to promote educational inclusion.
The Authority decided that institutions failing to submit complete scholarship records by June 30 will continue to face restrictions on registration and renewal services. Schools that remain non-compliant after the deadline will have their names published on the ICT-PEIRA website and shared with relevant examination boards.
Officials warned that continued violations could result in regulatory fines, suspension of registration, and legal action under the ICT-PEIRA Act, 2013, including referrals to the district administration.
The meeting also appreciated schools that have already fulfilled the scholarship requirement and approved the issuance of appreciation letters to recognize their contribution to educational access and social responsibility.
ICT-PEIRA reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring equitable access to education and effective implementation of free and compulsory education laws in Islamabad.
