The NA Standing Committee on Finance has approved a proposal to raise surcharges imposed on taxpayers who file their returns late, along with a separate penalty for individuals who claim excess tax credit.
According to officials from the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), the surcharge for companies seeking late inclusion in the Active Taxpayers List has been increased from Rs 25,000 to Rs 100,000.
For associations of persons, the surcharge has been raised from Rs 10,000 to Rs 50,000. The surcharge for individual taxpayers has been increased from Rs 1,000 to Rs 25,000.
It is pertinent to mention here that the committee also approved a proposal to impose a penalty on individuals found to have claimed excess tax credit.
Meanwhile, the Federal Board of Revenue has directed all field formations to observe normal working hours on June 27 and 28, 2026, Saturday and Sunday, to facilitate tax collection.
According to an FBR notification issued Friday, extended working hours will also apply on June 29 and 30, 2026, Monday and Tuesday, to maximize revenue collection before year-end.
The directive covers all FBR field offices nationwide, including Large Taxpayers Offices, Medium Taxpayers Offices, Corporate Tax Offices, and Regional Tax Offices, ahead of the fiscal year’s close.
