District administration has launched an operation on Mall Road in Murree under the Murree Development Plan, clearing shops and hotels from the hillside.
The Assistant Commissioner Murree said affected traders have been directed to vacate the premises and remove all belongings by the following day. The operation is expected to be completed within the next 15 days.
Officials said 20 kanals of land have been acquired on the orders of the Punjab government to ensure implementation of the Murree Development Plan.
Affected traders have raised serious objections to the operation, saying no compensation has been paid by the government. Several shopkeepers were seen in tears as they cleared their premises.
Displaced traders said the operation has damaged their livelihoods and called on the government to provide adequate compensation so they can relocate their businesses elsewhere.
