Pakistan has recorded a 20 percent improvement in the ICT Development Index 2026 report by the International Telecommunication Union, with its score rising from 56.4 to 67.7.
The country also climbed approximately 27 places in the global rankings.
The connectivity sector drove much of this progress, with Pakistan gaining 22.8 points to push its meaningful connectivity score to 79. The ITU report attributes this jump largely to expanded and improved digital infrastructure across the country.
Federal IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja called the ranking a milestone in the digital transformation journey of Pakistan. She said the IT and telecom sectors have been prioritised under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
According to the minister, improved connectivity will create new opportunities for youth, students, freelancers, and entrepreneurs. She added that the government will continue efforts to provide affordable, reliable, and high-quality digital services nationwide.
Khawaja also noted that the improved ITU ranking sends a positive signal to investors and technology companies considering Pakistan as a destination.
