The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has officially launched an electronic driving license (E-Driving License), allowing motorists to carry their driving credentials digitally on their smartphones.
The initiative has been jointly developed by the provincial Transport Department, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Technology Board (KPITB), and the Dastak Digital Platform. It aims to replace the need for physical driving licence cards while making verification faster and more secure.
According to the provincial government, the digital driving licence will be fully recognized by traffic police, government departments, and courts across Pakistan.
The administration of Chief Minister Sohail Afridi described the initiative as a major step toward modernizing public services under the “Digital Pakistan” vision.
The e-driving licence features a secure QR code that enables instant online verification, helping reduce the risks of forgery and document tampering.
Officials said the new system will provide motorists with a safer, faster, and more convenient way to prove their legal driving status. Drivers can now present their licence directly from their smartphones, making interactions with law enforcement and other authorities more efficient and transparent.
The launch is being seen as another significant milestone in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s efforts to expand digital governance, improve public service delivery, and promote greater transparency across the province.
