LESCO officers are paying full electricity bills for the first time in three decades, after the free units facility for company officials was withdrawn. Some officers say nearly half of their salaries are now going toward electricity payments.
Grade-18 officers previously received 6,000 free electricity units annually, Grade-19 officers received 8,000 units, and Grade-20 officers received 10,000 units, according to Lesco sources.
According to media reports, other power distribution companies have obtained restraining orders from courts and have had their free electricity units restored.
Lesco officials have called the withdrawal of the free units facility unlawful and have demanded that this facility be removed from all state departments entirely.
They argued that all privileges and facilities should be included within salary packages, and called on the energy ministry to introduce a unanimous policy on free electricity units.
