The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has approved an increase of 475 MBBS seats in government medical colleges across Punjab, expanding admission opportunities for aspiring medical students from the upcoming academic session.
Following the approval, the total number of MBBS seats in Punjab’s public sector medical colleges has increased from 3,476 to 3,951. The overall intake capacity of government medical and dental colleges in the province has also risen to 4,241 seats.
The decision comes after the Punjab Health Department urged the PMDC to expedite approval of the additional seats ahead of the new academic year.
In June, the department formally requested the council to resolve the long-pending matter, noting that the provincial government had initially submitted its proposal on August 21, 2025, seeking an increase of 475 MBBS seats in public sector medical colleges.
The proposal was subsequently placed before the PMDC Council for consideration and has now received formal approval, paving the way for government medical colleges across Punjab to admit students under the expanded quota from the forthcoming admission cycle.
The increase is expected to provide greater access to medical education for students while helping strengthen the province’s healthcare workforce by producing more medical graduates in the coming years.
