Karachi is set to get a new layer of automated traffic enforcement as the Sindh Safe Cities Authority installs Smart No-Parking Cameras across the city, targeting vehicles parked in restricted zones and feeding real-time data to the Traffic Police TRACS system for faceless e-challans.
Director General of the Safe Cities Authority Sarfraz Nawaz said the new cameras will identify vehicles parked in no-parking zones and transmit the information directly to the Karachi Traffic Police. Owners found in violation will be issued e-challans automatically through the TRACS system, without any personnel needing to be present at the site.
The initiative falls under the Karachi Safe City Project, through which the Sindh Safe Cities Authority has built a citywide surveillance network of more than 1,300 AI-based cameras. These cameras, installed at various points across the city, are capable of automatically identifying individuals, vehicles and other significant activity using artificial intelligence.
This existing network already powers the Traffic Police TRACS system, which has been used to detect traffic violations and issue faceless e-challans without officer intervention. The Smart No-Parking Cameras mark an expansion of this system, extending automated enforcement specifically to illegal parking.
Nawaz said the addition of no-parking detection will allow Traffic Police to issue faceless e-challans in real time as soon as a violation is recorded. He added that the move is intended to make enforcement of traffic laws more effective and far-reaching across the city.
He urged motorists to follow parking regulations and always park vehicles in designated areas, saying the effort is aimed at helping citizens avoid challans and inconvenience while contributing to making Karachi a smarter and more disciplined city.
