The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has awarded a 20-year electricity distribution license to DHA Energy Supply Company (Private) Limited, authorizing the firm to supply power within DHA City Karachi, a housing development spanning roughly 22,000 acres.
The license takes effect from October 1, 2026, and will remain valid until September 30, 2046, subject to the continued compliance of the company with the rules, regulations and other applicable legal requirements of the NEPRA.
DHA City Karachi is being developed by the Defence Housing Authority Karachi in Gadap Town, located about 56 kilometers from the city. DHA Energy Supply Company was set up specifically to provide electric power services to the housing project, according to NEPRA determination.
The regulator confirmed that the distribution license applies strictly to the facilities of the company within DHA City Karachi and is governed by the terms and conditions outlined in the license.
Under the license, the company will be permitted to charge consumers only those tariffs, including use-of-system and connection charges, that have been determined and approved by NEPRA.
If a tariff has not yet been set at the time the license is issued, the company is required to submit a tariff petition to NEPRA within 30 days of receiving the license.
NEPRA has also directed DHA Energy Supply Company to fully comply with the Electric Consumer Regulations for Distribution, covering minimum solvency, human resource and technical requirements.
The regulator noted that the license remains subject to the provisions of the NEPRA Act along with other relevant rules, regulations and legal documents.
