The Laptop Steering Committee has decided that students applying under the second phase of the laptop distribution scheme will be verified through NADRA before receiving devices.
According to media reports, the decision was taken during a meeting of the Steering Committee, though no date has yet been set for the launch of the second phase.
Formal approval for the distribution will be sought from the Chief Minister through a summary.
The Higher Education Department has not yet finalized a schedule for the second phase, leaving students across the province, including many in Sahiwal division who missed out during the first phase, still waiting for laptops.
Under the second phase, the government aims to distribute laptops to 100,000 students this year.
The merit-based scheme was launched last year, with more than 40,000 students receiving laptops in its first phase. Students eligible for the second phase say they are awaiting an official announcement of the distribution schedule.
Officials have not indicated when the verification process or distribution under the second phase will begin.
