Google has released Android 17 QPR 1 Beta 8 for developers and users enrolled in its beta program. The update is now available for the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) and supported Google Pixel devices. It is part of Google’s Feature Drops program.
This release does not introduce any new user-facing features. Instead, Google has focused on fixing important bugs and improving overall system performance.
One of the biggest fixes targets an audio issue that caused loud static and distorted sound. Google said the problem came from a buffer management flaw in the Android audio framework. Because of this bug, some users experienced random bursts of loud static and corrupted audio during media playback and system notifications.
The update also fixes a connection problem affecting the Pixel Tablet Speaker Dock. Some users reported that the dock frequently went offline or failed to connect when attached. Google says the latest beta resolves that issue.
In addition, Android 17 QPR 1 Beta 8 includes a fix for an NFC service regression. It also addresses a problem that affected fingerprint authentication on supported devices.
Google has made the update available through AOSP and for all compatible Pixel devices enrolled in the Android Beta Program. Eligible devices include the Pixel 6 series and newer models.
