American companies are exploring investment opportunities in Pakistan’s mining sector, with a particular focus on critical minerals such as copper, antimony, and tungsten, according to officials from the US Embassy.
Speaking to select journalists, embassy officials said US commercial interest ranges from small-scale mineral trading operations to major investments in large mining projects, reflecting growing efforts to diversify global critical mineral supply chains.
Officials revealed that some American firms are already working with local license holders and small-scale mining operators to secure supplies of minerals, particularly antimony. These arrangements include purchasing, testing, and exporting raw or semi-processed ore for integration into international supply chains.
The US Embassy officials said copper, antimony, and tungsten are among the key minerals attracting interest from American investors due to their strategic importance.
Antimony has become increasingly valuable because of its use in defense equipment, precision optics, batteries, semiconductors, and other advanced technologies. Pakistan possesses several high-grade antimony deposits, although many are found in relatively small, concentrated reserves rather than large-scale mining sites.
Officials noted that investment opportunities vary widely, from projects requiring only a few million dollars to large-scale mining ventures, particularly copper projects that demand significant capital investment.
The interest comes as the United States seeks to strengthen and diversify its access to critical minerals used in clean energy technologies, battery manufacturing, and defense industries.
If materialized, these investments could support the development of Pakistan’s mining sector, increase exports, and attract foreign direct investment into the country’s mineral resources.
