VEDA, the operator of the Lahore Metro Bus Service (LMBS), has issued a final notice to the Punjab Mass Transit Authority (PMA), announcing that all bus operations will be suspended from August 11, 2026, unless fuel supplies are immediately arranged.
In its notice, VEDA said it had exhausted its financial resources and could no longer continue running the service without fuel funding. The company cited non-implementation of a court order dated July 29, 2026, which had directed PMA to provide fuel from its own sources.
VEDA said it had written to PMA on July 31 and August 4 but received no response on either occasion.
The matter was later discussed at a meeting between the two sides on August 6, where VEDA again stated it had run out of financial capacity to sustain operations. PMA responded that it could not make a decision without explicit directions from the Punjab government.
The meeting concluded with an understanding that PMA would propose a solution, but VEDA said no arrangement had been communicated since then.
In its final notice, VEDA stated that unless PMA immediately began an uninterrupted fuel supply from its own sources, in line with the court order, it would be unable to continue operations. The company confirmed that all Lahore Metro Bus Service operations would stand suspended from August 11, 2026.
VEDA maintained that any suspension would result solely from PMAs failure to implement the court order and would not reflect any fault or unwillingness on its part.
The company also reserved its contractual, legal and arbitration rights, indicating that the dispute could escalate into further legal action.
