The federal cabinet has approved the Pakistan Information Security Framework 2026 (PISF 2026), aimed at establishing a unified national approach to information security and strengthening cybersecurity standards across the country.
The draft framework was presented to the cabinet by the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication during a meeting held in Islamabad.
According to the briefing, the PISF 2026 has been developed under the CERT Rules 2023 and is designed to establish a comprehensive and standardized system of information security requirements.
The framework seeks to introduce uniform baseline information security standards while ensuring centralized oversight of cybersecurity-related matters.
The government described the PISF 2026 as an important guiding document for Pakistan’s cybersecurity landscape and directed relevant authorities to ensure its effective implementation within the prescribed timeframe.
The framework is expected to provide a more coordinated structure for managing information security risks and improving cybersecurity practices across relevant institutions.
The approval comes as Pakistan continues to expand its digital infrastructure and online public and private-sector services, increasing the importance of stronger cybersecurity safeguards and coordinated information security standards.
