Kia fans in Pakistan recently received disappointing news that Lucky Motor Corporation (LMC) officially discontinued the 1000cc Picanto hatchback. However, this move does not mean the end of the road for the famous South Korean brand. Instead, Kia is reportedly preparing to launch the new generation of the Picanto in the local market.
According to emerging reports and automotive experts, Lucky Motor plans to introduce the latest model very soon. In fact, consumers might see the new Picanto arrive within the next month.
The End of a Six-Year Kia Picanto Era
The previous Kia Picanto had a solid run in Pakistan. The company originally launched the 1000cc hatchback locally back in September 2019. Consequently, the car remained a staple part of Kia’s local lineup for nearly six years.
Reportedly, things changed recently as LMC ended the production and sales of the vehicle. Furthermore, Kia Pakistan completely removed the model from its official website. The company also permanently closed all new bookings for the hatchback. This sudden discontinuation led many to believe the nameplate was disappearing from the country entirely.
A New Generation on the Horizon
Yesterday, Suneel Munj, an automotive expert, quickly shut down those disappearance rumors. He stated on X that the discontinuation of the six-year-old model simply paves the way for a newer version. Therefore, Kia will definitely keep the Picanto nameplate alive in Pakistan.
Despite this exciting development, buyers must wait for concrete facts. Lucky Motor Corporation has not officially confirmed this plan yet. Moreover, the company has not announced any official launch date. Similarly, LMC has kept quiet regarding the upcoming vehicle’s specifications, local assembly status, and pricing.
For now, the automotive market must rely on these industry reports while waiting for an official statement from Kia Pakistan.
