Epic Games has officially announced Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4: Override. The highly anticipated season drops in just two days on August 20. For the last nine years, Fortnite has collaborated with major gaming franchises. Now, the game is finally putting these crossovers at the center of its actual gameplay. A new full-length trailer reveals iconic characters like Sonic the Hedgehog, Mega Man, and Crash Bandicoot entering the Battle Royale.
Fortnite Override: A Digital World of Gaming Legends
The overview trailer sets the stage perfectly. Troy Baker’s Jonesy falls into a massive digital void filled with falling Tetrominos. Next, he follows a 1UP coin straight into a 3D version of the Green Hill Zone. Sonic the Hedgehog instantly intercepts him there.
Furthermore, the official key art confirms a massive roster of new gaming icons. Players will see Shadow the Hedgehog, Dr. Eggman, Mega Man, Rush, and Persona 5’s Joker. Additionally, Spyro the Dragon, Pac-Man, and Kingdom Hearts’ Sora will join the chaos. However, Epic Games has not yet clarified which characters belong in the Battle Pass and which will hit the Item Shop.
New POIs & Unique Mechanics
Fortnite is bringing entirely new mechanics to match these legends. The trailer clearly shows a Sonic-style running mechanic and a Spin Dash move. Moreover, players can equip unique character items. Joker uses a Tails-themed hover backpack to float in midair. Meanwhile, Jonesy wields a new Mega Buster weapon alongside Mega Man.
The map also features massive new Points of Interest (POIs) dedicated to these franchises. You can expect to drop into the Green Hill Zone and explore a dedicated Pac-Man-themed island.
Returning Classics
The Override season key art also highlights several returning veterans. Master Chief from Halo, Ryu from Street Fighter, and Raiden from Mortal Kombat are back. Geralt of Rivia and Lara Croft also make appearances on the poster.
Currently, their exact roles remain a mystery. They might return simply as Item Shop skins. Alternatively, they could spawn as NPCs roaming the new gaming-themed areas of the map.
