The Board of Secondary Education Karachi (BSEK) has directed all affiliated educational institutions to strictly enforce a complete ban on the use of CNG and LPG in vehicles used for student transportation.
In a notification dated August 6, 2026, BSEK Secretary Dr. Naveed Ahmed instructed heads of affiliated institutions to ensure that operators providing student pick-and-drop services comply with the directive.
The board warned that vehicles violating the directive will not be allowed to operate as school transport. Such vehicles may also face fines and impoundment by the relevant authorities.
BSEK has instructed institutions to immediately stop the use of CNG and LPG in student transportation vehicles, including during school vacation periods.
Educational institutions have also been directed to conduct regular inspections of student transport vehicles and monitor compliance with statutory requirements and judicial directives.
Schools must ensure that transport operators follow the safety requirements before allowing vehicles to continue providing pick-and-drop services to students.
BSEK has further instructed schools to launch awareness campaigns for parents, students and transporters regarding the risks associated with using CNG and LPG in student transport vehicles.
The campaigns will also highlight the Gujrat case precedent and the safety concerns surrounding the use of these fuels in vehicles carrying students.
The latest directive places greater responsibility on educational institutions and transport operators to ensure that student transportation services comply with safety regulations.
