The Privatisation Commission received the EOIs on the closing date for submissions. The interested parties are seeking to acquire between 51% and 100% shareholding in GEPCO, along with management control.

The Privatisation Commission said the response reflects significant interest from leading domestic business groups as well as international investors.
Muhammad Ali, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Privatisation and Chairman of the Privatisation Commission, described the strong response as another important milestone in the government’s DISCO privatisation programme.
He said the investor interest indicates confidence in the potential of Pakistan’s electricity distribution sector and the government’s commitment to maintaining a transparent, competitive and professionally managed privatisation process.
The Privatisation Commission also appreciated investors’ participation in domestic and international roadshows held over the past six months.
The submitted EOIs and Statements of Qualification (SOQs) will now undergo a detailed evaluation against the approved prequalification criteria.
Applicants meeting the prescribed requirements will be prequalified and invited to the next stage of the transaction. Prequalified investors will receive access to the Virtual Data Room (VDR), allowing them to conduct detailed due diligence on GEPCO.
The government expects the privatisation process to improve operational efficiency, modernise distribution infrastructure, strengthen customer services and reduce losses in the power distribution sector.
GEPCO is one of three electricity distribution companies included in Batch-I of the government’s DISCO privatisation programme, alongside Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) and Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO).
FESCO received EOIs from 12 interested parties by the August 7, 2026 deadline. The deadline for submitting EOIs for IESCO has been set for September 7, 2026.
The Privatisation Commission said it remains committed to conducting an open, transparent and competitive process in the public interest and as part of the federal government’s broader power-sector reform agenda.
