The University of Peshawar Retired Employees Council has called for practical measures to establish the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Higher Education Commission (KP HEC), saying the institution could help improve the effectiveness and administration of higher education in the province.
The demand was raised during a general body meeting of the council held on Monday and chaired by former University of Peshawar Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Ihsan Ali. Former vice-chancellors, retired teachers, and other retired university employees attended the meeting.
Participants reviewed several administrative and financial matters affecting retired employees of the University of Peshawar.
The meeting was informed that a committee has been formed to prepare a constitution for the University of Peshawar Retired Employees Council. The draft constitution will be presented for approval at the council’s next meeting.
The participants also discussed the issue of annual service certificates. They urged the university administration to coordinate with the relevant authorities and NADRA to introduce arrangements that would save retired employees from repeatedly submitting the certificates.
The council appreciated the efforts of the university’s vice-chancellor, pro-vice-chancellor, registrar, and other senior officials in addressing the concerns of retired employees.
Members also welcomed the administration’s decision to increase pensions by 7 percent and introduce additional welfare measures for retired employees.
The council further called for the immediate processing of the DRC matter, which has already been approved by the competent authority, so that retired employees can receive their outstanding dues without further delay.
The meeting also decided to organize the council’s annual dinner on September 25 at the Teachers Community Centre.
Former vice-chancellors, university officials, teachers, and other relevant personalities will be invited to attend the event.
The council’s call for the establishment of KP HEC comes amid broader discussions about improving higher education governance and administration across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
