The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has officially granted conditional approval for the Ufone-Telenor rebranding. Pak Telecom Mobile Limited (PTML) manages this newly merged mobile operation. While an official launch date remains under wraps, the highly anticipated transition is expected soon.
PTA Approves Ufone-Telenor Rebranding With Strict Regulatory Conditions
PTA did not issue a blank check. Instead, the regulator tied its approval directly to the completion of all required legal formalities. Furthermore, PTML must formally notify the authority after fulfilling these requirements. They must do this before launching any commercial or promotional campaigns under the new identity.
Previously, this rebranding effort faced significant delays. Specifically, legal and corporate governance questions slowed the approval process. Meanwhile, rumors recently suggested a September 15 launch event. However, PTA sources clarified yesterday that they are completely unaware of this plan and have received no confirmation of the date.
The Ufone-Telenor amalgamation brings a massive shift to Pakistan’s telecom landscape. Under the PTML umbrella, the operations have fully combined their spectrum resources, network infrastructure, and user bases. Consequently, the consolidated telecom business now serves more than 74 million subscribers across Pakistan.
Transitioning to the “e&” Identity
Moving forward, PTML management proposed dropping the legacy Ufone and Telenor Pakistan identities entirely. In their place, the company intends to adopt the global “e&” brand.
Despite this internal proposal, the final brand name remains unconfirmed to the public. Additionally, PTML has not yet announced a clear transition plan for its massive customer base. Therefore, millions of users must wait for the company to officially reveal its new identity and future roadmap.
