Rawalpindi traffic police have asked authorities to temporarily suspend Green Electric Bus services on two routes due to ongoing underpass construction on Peshawar Road.
Chief Traffic Officer Farhan Aslam has requested the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) to suspend Route 1 from Saddar to Bhatta Chowk and Route 4 from Marrir Metro Station to Chowk 26 No.
According to traffic officials, construction work has diverted traffic toward narrower roads that may not be able to safely accommodate the large Green Electric Buses. They warned that continuing operations on the affected routes could increase traffic congestion and the risk of accidents.
The request comes days after a nine-year-old girl was killed when a Green Bus collided with the motorcycle carrying her and her father on Adiala Road. The incident led to protests, during which the rear portion of the bus was set on fire.
Meanwhile, schools located along Peshawar Road have reportedly remained closed for two months due to the construction work, with students attending classes online during the disruption.
Parents have expressed concerns over the prolonged closure and said the construction should have been completed during the summer holidays to minimize disruption for students and daily commuters.
Authorities are now considering the temporary suspension of the two Green Bus routes as construction continues and traffic management remains a challenge in the affected areas.
