The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and trader representatives will jointly visit markets across all four provinces to register shopkeepers under the Easy Tax Scheme, officials decided at a review meeting on Tuesday.
The meeting was chaired by Minister of State for Finance and Railways Bilal Azhar Kayani. It was attended by trade leaders Ajmal Baloch and Kashif Chaudhry, Member Inland Revenue Operations Zubair Bilal, senior FBR officials, chief commissioners, and representatives of RTO Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Regional and corporate tax offices nationwide joined via video link.
Participants reviewed the performance of regional tax offices under the scheme and the progress made so far. It was decided that FBR officers and trader representatives will devise joint strategies to facilitate registration in local markets, with officials from regional and corporate tax offices accompanying trade leaders at pre-scheduled times to conduct registration drives across the country.
Kayani announced that another review meeting will be held next week to assess progress, and feedback from traders on the scheme was also discussed.
He said the scheme was launched on the directives of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in response to traders’ demands, and its implementation has now begun in earnest. The first plaque under the scheme has been installed in Islamabad, he said, adding that plaques will be placed on shops nationwide from tomorrow.
Kayani said the scheme would expand the tax net while easing compliance for traders, adding that continuous monitoring would be ensured to make it a success.
