Qualcomm is evaluating Samsung Foundry’s 2nm process technology for future chips, according to a new report. The company is also exploring ways to expand its manufacturing partnership with Samsung.
Qualcomm Senior Vice President and Head of Mobile Handsets Chris Patrick confirmed that the company is conducting in-depth work on Samsung’s 2nm process. He also described the relationship between the two companies as a close partnership.
Patrick said Samsung Foundry has long been a core partner for Qualcomm and will remain important in the future. He added that Qualcomm is currently evaluating how to use Samsung’s 2nm technology in upcoming products.
The comments follow reports that Qualcomm was in talks with Samsung over its 2nm manufacturing process. However, Qualcomm’s recently launched Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chips are manufactured by TSMC, continuing the company’s reliance on the Taiwanese chipmaker for its high-end processors.
Patrick also highlighted Qualcomm’s broader relationship with Samsung Electronics, calling it the company’s strongest global partner in the mobile business. The two companies have maintained an alliance for decades, covering several areas of mobile technology.
Their collaboration also extends to memory technology. Both companies are working together to commercialize LPDDR6 memory, with their engineering teams addressing the technical challenges involved in its development.
