Recent reports suggested that Xbox secured exclusive streaming rights for Grand Theft Auto (GTA) 6. Consequently, rumors rapidly spread across the internet. If true, this deal would finally allow PC users to play the game at launch. However, a top company executive just shut down the speculation.
The Source of the Rumors
The whispers originally began following a report from The Verge. During a recent employee meeting, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma discussed the highly anticipated game. According to the outlet, Sharma stated that Xbox is doing something around the game’s release that no other platform is doing. Immediately, this statement sparked massive speculation. Fans assumed the company secured exclusive streaming rights for its Xbox Cloud Gaming service.
Currently, CEO Asha Sharma is pushing major corporate reforms. Additionally, she recently secured a surprising deal for Hideo Kojima’s upcoming game, ‘Physint’. Therefore, these aggressive moves made the GTA 6 rumors seem entirely believable. Fans hoped a massive streaming deal represented her next big step toward making Xbox profitable again.
Xbox CSO Clears the Air Around GTA 6 Streaming Rights
On October 7, Xbox CSO Matthew Ball addressed the situation directly on Twitter. He quickly clarified the misunderstanding. Ball stated:
We are looking forward to launching GTAVI on XBOX November 19, though the game will not be streaming exclusively or to PC.
Ultimately, this statement confirmed two harsh realities. First, Xbox holds no exclusive streaming deal. Second, PC players have no cloud workaround for playing the game through Xbox Cloud Gaming. Ball explicitly labeled the recent reports as “misreporting”. Afterward, The Verge updated its original article. However, the publication still believes a narrower console-only streaming deal might exist. This theoretical deal could potentially block web browsers and apps from accessing the game via Xbox Cloud Gaming.
While the excitement for GTAVI and XBOX is great to see, it has also led to some misreporting. We are looking forward to launching GTAVI on XBOX November 19, though the game will not be streaming exclusively or to PC.

What This Means for PC Players
So far, Rockstar Games has not commented on these streaming rumors. However, the developer previously confirmed that the game will skip PC at launch. Furthermore, they provided no release window for a future port. Consequently, gamers desperately wanted the Xbox streaming deal to be true. A cloud feature would technically allow PC users to play online instead of waiting for a proper port.
Although Xbox crushed the PC streaming rumors, players should not lose all hope. If Sharma’s initial comments are accurate, Xbox still plans something exclusive for the launch. It might not be a streaming deal, but it could still deliver an interesting surprise for Xbox fans.
