Microsoft has opened pre-orders for the Surface Laptop Ultra, several months after its Computex announcement. The flagship laptop uses Nvidia’s RTX Spark SoC and targets Apple’s rumored MacBook Ultra.
The Surface Laptop Ultra is available through Microsoft’s official online store and select retailers worldwide. It starts at $2,599, while general sales will begin on October 16. Microsoft is also offering a trade-in deal for MacBook Pro owners. Customers can receive up to $1,000 cashback when they trade in an eligible MacBook Pro.
The company has also announced pricing for the Surface RTX Spark Dev Box. The desktop system costs $5,999 and is available for pre-order in the US. Shipping is expected to begin in November. The RTX Spark SoC gives the Surface Laptop Ultra its main performance boost. It combines a Blackwell RTX GPU with up to 6,144 cores and an Nvidia Grace CPU with up to 20 cores.

The chip is paired with 128GB of unified memory. This setup is designed to handle demanding AI workloads and other intensive tasks. The laptop also features a 15-inch mini-LED touchscreen display. Microsoft claims it offers up to 25 percent higher peak HDR brightness than the MacBook Pro M5.
Meanwhile, the Surface RTX Spark Dev Box targets Apple’s Mac Studio and Mac mini. It uses the same RTX Spark SoC as the Surface Laptop Ultra and offers up to 1 petaflop of AI performance. The Dev Box also includes 128GB of unified memory. With the laptop and desktop system, Microsoft is positioning the RTX Spark platform for high-end AI and computing workloads.
