Microsoft just officially shook up its hardware lineup, revealing the brand-new Xbox Nano Controller. This pocket-sized gamepad specifically targets young gamers, users with smaller hands, and portable gaming fans. Furthermore, the tech giant is rapidly expanding its internal development. Just two days ago, on October 13, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma announced Xbox Labs. This new research and development branch will push the boundaries of game creation.
A Pocket-Sized Xbox Nano Controller by Microsoft
The Xbox Nano Controller officially launches on Tuesday, November 3. It will hit multiple countries, including the US and Canada, with an affordable $49.99 MSRP. Currently, you can pre-order the device on the Microsoft Store with free standard shipping across the US. Sadly, these pre-orders are not available for the Pakistani audience. Interested gamers in Pakistan will have to wait as usual.
Despite its small footprint, the gamepad packs serious functionality. It supports Xbox consoles, Windows PCs, and mobile devices (Android and iOS) via Bluetooth. Therefore, it serves as a budget-friendly powerhouse for mobile gamers.
The Nano Controller retains all 18 standard gameplay inputs. However, Microsoft made one major change. The standard Capture Button is now a programmable “Action Button.” You can easily customize this input via the Xbox Accessories app to capture screenshots, record clips, or perform other personalized functions.

Additionally, the controller features a built-in rechargeable battery via USB-C. But there is a catch. Microsoft does not include a USB-C charging cable in the box. You will need to provide your own cable to power up the device.
Exclusive Holiday Bundles & Xbox Labs
Microsoft is not just selling the Nano Controller standalone. Instead, the company is actively collaborating with major tech brands for the upcoming holiday shopping season.
Firstly, Xbox teamed up with Samsung. If you purchase select Samsung smart TVs this holiday season, you will receive a Nano Controller and two months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. Moreover, Microsoft is currently finalizing a similar bundle with Meta. This upcoming deal targets new Meta Quest VR headset buyers, though official details remain under wraps.
The hardware reveal arrives during a massive shift for Microsoft. On October 13, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma officially unveiled Xbox Labs. This new division launched after several fan-made, browser-based recompilations of popular IPs like Halo and Call of Duty went viral.
Consequently, Microsoft wants to experiment with these unofficial techniques. The company plans to see how it can utilize these browser-porting methods in an official capacity. More importantly, Xbox Labs will explore the use of AI agents in game development. This remains a highly controversial subject across the gaming industry, but Microsoft is pushing forward anyway.
The 25th Anniversary X25 Controller
Meanwhile, hardcore collectors have another option arriving soon. Next Tuesday, October 20, Microsoft will launch the Xbox X25 Special Edition Wireless Controller.
This standard-size gamepad sports a sleek translucent green shell and features official Xbox 25th Anniversary branding. It carries a steeper $79.99 price tag. However, demand is already massive. Pre-orders are currently fluctuating in and out of stock at major retailers like Amazon and Walmart.
Ultimately, the $49.99 Nano Controller offers a highly affordable, portable alternative to the premium options. As the holiday season approaches, it remains to be seen if this compact design will dominate the sales charts.
