Pakistan Railways is set to upgrade two major passenger trains, Awam Express and Khyber Mail, as part of its efforts to modernize railway services and improve passenger facilities.
Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi informed the National Assembly on Friday that Awam Express, which operates from Peshawar, will receive an upgrade starting November 2, 2026. Khyber Mail is also scheduled for modernization by the end of January 2027. The minister added that Hazara Express is also included in the department’s train upgrade plans.
During the session, Abbasi highlighted improvements in the railway ticketing system, saying passengers can now book tickets through the Rabta mobile app without visiting booking offices. Pakistan Railways has also installed 329 point-of-sale machines at 236 booking centers, allowing payments through banks, Easypaisa, JazzCash, and QR codes.
The minister further noted that passenger demand on a train operating in Quetta had reached 190% of its seating capacity. He said Pakistan Railways would continue development projects across the country without discrimination between provinces.
