Samsung has reportedly started developing a large foldable tablet that could expand from 8 inches to 17 inches. The development follows an earlier leak that suggested multiple versions and test devices were already in the works.
The latest information comes from a tipster on X, who first revealed the project in late August. The tipster did not identify the manufacturer at the time. However, a new post has now confirmed that “Samsung has already started.”
According to the original leak, the device would measure 8 inches when folded and expand to 17 inches when fully opened. However, details about its design and display remain unknown. The tipster has also said they cannot share more information for now.
It is unclear how Samsung plans to achieve this design. One possibility is an outward-folding display that exposes part of the screen when closed. Another option involves a large inner display and a separate 8-inch cover screen, similar to the Galaxy Z Fold series.

The second approach could make the device considerably more expensive. Meanwhile, an outward-folding design would leave the main display exposed when folded. Samsung has explored large foldable devices before. In 2023, reports mentioned a possible Galaxy Z Tab, but the project never reached the market.
Samsung Display has also showcased several large foldable screen prototypes at trade shows over the years. However, building such displays is different from launching a commercial product. Samsung’s mobile division still needs to see enough demand to justify the device.
The foldable market has also changed since those earlier reports. Apple has now entered the category with its iPhone Duo, giving Samsung another reason to explore larger and more ambitious designs. For now, Samsung has not shared any official details about the tablet. There is also no confirmed launch timeline, so its arrival may still be some time away.
