Bungie recently published an October Community Update post. This post clearly details the future of the iconic looter-shooter. Earlier this year, the studio canceled the planned Shattered Cycle expansion. Consequently, developers intended to cease all game support after the beloved Monument of Triumph update in June. However, players relentlessly demanded a franchise continuation. Fans even flooded a Sony State of Play chat with Destiny 3 requests. Therefore, Bungie announced a massive franchise revival in September. Now, Bungie has also unveiled the Destiny 2 unvaulting timeline.
Destiny 2 Unvaulting Timeline & Future Events
Now, Bungie representative Josh Dean has clarified the upcoming schedule. The development team is currently prepping the massive unvaulting process in pre-production. Furthermore, full production will begin in February 2027. This ambitious project will successfully restore campaigns, DLC stories, locations, and Raids. Moreover, the popular Menagerie activity will officially return with brand-new reprised rewards. Ultimately, the complete unvaulting release might take 12 months and subsequently slide into 2028. Additionally, Bungie will launch a new progress bar in February to accurately track these development goals.

Besides unvaulting old content, the studio teased a massive Destiny 2 Celebration event. Developers designed this event to celebrate the game far beyond the Monument of Triumph update. Currently, specific details remain unclear. Nevertheless, the celebration likely points toward new in-game activities or fresh gear farming opportunities. Additionally, the October post announced a mysterious Destiny Legacy update. The studio emphasized serving the entire decade-old epic journey exactly where players game today.
Consequently, fans strongly suspect an official Destiny 1 remaster and a dedicated PC port. Josh Dean previously teased this exact prospect on Twitter. Furthermore, Dean and Studio Head Poria Torkan want to retell the complete franchise story before exploring any spin-offs or sequels.
Studio Growth & New Rumors
The massive outpouring of community support clearly changed the developer trajectory. Consequently, Bungie is actively hiring new talent for Destiny 2 again. The studio seems incredibly focused on turning the ship around completely. Meanwhile, intriguing new industry rumors have surfaced regarding the developer. Reports suggest Bungie might develop Star Wars Battlefront 3 for Disney. Alternatively, the studio is reportedly holding active talks about the legendary sci-fi property. Regardless, the developers clearly have massive plans for 2027 and the distant future.
